After a PhD in physiology at the Laboratory of Applied Physiology of Cochin (Université Paris Cité) he began his career as a researcher at the Laboratory of Physiology and Biomechanics of the National Institute of Sport, Expertise and Performance. His research interests include the management of substrates during exercise and the relationship with brain function, applied to high performance sports and aging. He was Dean of the Faculty of Sport Sciences from 2014 to 2016, when he took on the responsibility of Vice President of the Research Commission of the University of Nice Sophia Antipolis and Vice President of Research of Université Côte d’Azur. Riri Fitri Sari is a Professor of Computer Engineering at the Electrical Engineering Department, Faculty of Engineering, University of Indonesia (UI). She graduated with a BSc in Electrical Engineering from UI. She gained a master’s in human resources management from the Atmajaya University Jakarta. Subsequently she completed her MSc degree in Software Systems and Parallel Processing from the Department of Computer Science, University of Sheffield, UK, funded by British Council Chevening Award. She holds a PhD in Computer Networks from the School of Computing, University of Leeds, UK. Her PhD research was on Active Networks-based Congestion Control Protocols. Since April 2010, she has been the Chairperson of UI GreenMetric Ranking of World Universities, a flagship program of the University of Indonesia to rank university worldwide based on their green campus and sustainability programs. Prof Riri Fitri Sari has also received an Honorary Professorship from Kazakh National Agrarian University (KAZNAU) in 2017 and many other research and lifetime achievement awards

Emily is the coordinator of the Nature Positive Universities (NPU) initiative, working in the Department of Biology at the University of Oxford, in collaboration with UNEP and forming part of the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration. Through NPU, Emily coordinates a global network of universities who have signed up to start a Nature Positive journey. Emily studied Archaeology and Anthropology at University of Cambridge and has spent 10 years working in sustainability and research with NGOs and industrial partners, in areas such as low impact housing, fibres and textiles. She completed her Masters degrees in Sustainable Business and Sustainable Textiles at the University of Leeds. In coordinating Nature Positive Universities, Emily developed the Nature Positive Pledge which was launched in 2022 and has been taken by 162 universities to use their influence and address the biodiversity impacts of their campuses, operations and supply chains; and to set targets and prioritise actions for nature. This is complemented by the NPU Student Ambassador programme, which involves 400 global students attending monthly online green skills workshops and working together to take action for nature on their campuses. Emily advocates for a global nature-positive goal to communicate the challenge and journey required to restore ecosystems, species and habitats; and to complement urgent transitions to zero carbon. She believes that everyone has a part to play in restoring nature.

Erwin Franquet is a full professor at Université Côte d’Azur, specializing in energy systems, thermal engineering, and sustainable transitions. He holds a Ph.D. from Aix-Marseille University (2006), a habilitation (HDR) from the University of Pau (2016), and an engineering degree in energy mechanics. He previously led the “Energy in Industry” master’s program at ENSGTI in Pau for eight years and currently heads the Civil Engineering and Smart Buildings Department at Polytech Nice Sophia. His research focuses on energy management at the building and district levels, with a strong emphasis on renewable energy and sustainability. He promotes a transdisciplinary approach, combining physics, computer science, economics, and law, and works closely with academic and industrial partners to develop holistic responses to climate challenges.
